Clergy & Staff
The clergy and staff at St. Matthew’s is small, especially given the impact the church has on the community of Fairbanks and beyond. Since its inception in 1904, the church has been served by one full-time priest…but other priests have served alongside as they were able. Office staff has usually been just one or two part-time employees, though St. Matthew’s has had a full time Parish Administrator since 2018.
We have been grateful over the years for dedicated volunteers who have offered their time and talent to help accomplish the work of the church.
We are happy to say that we recently installed our new Rector (Fr. Steve Reed) on September 22nd.

Hi, I'm Fr. Steve+ My parents are Fr. Jim and Lee Reed. My dad, Fr. Scott, and I all attended the same seminary in Austin Texas. I graduated in May of 2001. I was active in lay ministry at Christ Episcopal Church in Denver, Colorado six years prior to seminary. I met my beautiful bride Laura at church and next year we will have been married for 30 years. We have 2 daughters: Sarah (25 years old) and Jessica (21 years old). I have been active in church and chaplaincy ministry for over twenty years. I served at St. Matthews from 2010 to 2017 when Fr. Scott was rector and shortly after he retired. I then went on to serve at Christ Lutheran Church from 2017 to 2019 and St. Paul Church from 2019 to 2024. I have been friends with Fr. Scott for nearly 15 years. I know that I have very colorful shoes to fill. I look forward to serving you and visiting members of the community.

Kaylee Fischer began serving as the Parish Administrator at St. Matthew’s in July 2023
A life-long resident of Fairbanks, Kaylee’s family is from the village of Minto and Stevens. From the age of two, Kaylee was raised in the Episcopal Diocese Office, and St. Matthews. Kaylee married her husband Joshua in St. Matthews in 2019. They recently welcomed their Daughter Davina Louise Fischer in early 2023. Kaylee enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
